Meetings of the Hartley Wintney Heritage Society are usually held twice a year in Spring and Autumn with the AGM linked to the Spring meeting.Hazeley

Members’ meeting – Our delayed ‘Spring Meeting’ (including the 2020-21 AGM) was held on July 28th and was well attended with approximately 70 members present.

We were treated to an excellent illustrated presentation on the future aspirations of Jastar, the new owners of the Elvetham. The family have ambitious plans for the restoration of the buildings as well as the gardens, including glow worms.

David Turver of WeHeartHart concluded the evening giving an update on the proposal to build up to 10000 homes at Shapley Heath Garden Community which in his opinion and shared by the Heritage Society are deemed to be ‘not required’.

The agenda for the meeting can be found here

The meeting was held on Wednesday 9 October at the Victoria Hall.

Martin Barnes, organist at St John’s, opened the evening with an update on the project ‘St John’s history and Restoration 150’. Anyone who visited the exhibition at St John’s Church in June will appreciate the vast amount of material which was displayed in and around the church.

During the evening, there was an update on the Front Garden Award and Photographic Competition with the opportunity of viewing the photographs submitted.
